Allied Health Academy runs dry needling training for practising physiotherapists in Singapore. The teaching is evidence-informed and practical: you learn the safety requirements and the reasoning first, then spend the bulk of the course palpating and needling real anatomy with a trainer correcting your hands.
Our current programme covers the lower quadrant — the lumbar spine, pelvis and hip, thigh, leg, ankle and foot — across 2.5 days and 20 hours, in a group capped at 11 so every participant gets individual correction.
What you learn
The course is structured so that safety and clinical reasoning come before technique. Content spans the fundamentals of dry needling and acupuncture; indications, contraindications and risk management; the mechanisms and therapeutic effects of needling; an overview of the meridian system and its clinical relevance; and clinical reasoning for integrating the modality into physiotherapy practice.
The practical component covers palpation and surface anatomy alongside needling technique for the hip, thigh, knee, ankle and lower leg.
On completion
- Perform dry needling in accordance with safety requirements and standard procedures
- Apply aseptic technique and manage risks and adverse events
- Identify safe landmarks, depth and angle, and the precautions specific to lower-quadrant structures
- Palpate and needle key muscles of the lumbar spine, pelvis and hip, thigh, leg, ankle and foot
- Apply dry needling with sound clinical reasoning inside physiotherapy practice
Who it's for
Practising physiotherapists, whether or not you have needled before. Clinicians early in their career use it to build a defensible technique from the start; experienced clinicians use it to refine what they already do against current evidence. If you work primarily with the upper quadrant, our physiotherapy course listing covers manual therapy for the shoulder and upper quadrant as well.

Common questions
Who can take a dry needling course in Singapore?
Practising physiotherapists — both those seeking a career head start and experienced clinicians with or without prior dry needling experience who want to refine their technique against current evidence. A musculoskeletal focus is recommended but not required.
Do I need previous dry needling experience?
No. The lower-quadrant course starts from fundamentals — safety requirements, indications and contraindications, and the mechanisms behind the technique — before moving into palpation and needling practice, so clinicians new to the modality can start here.
What does the training cover?
Fundamentals of dry needling and acupuncture; safety, indications, contraindications and risk management; mechanisms and therapeutic effects; clinical reasoning for integration into physiotherapy; an overview of the meridian system; and practical palpation, surface anatomy and needling technique for the hip, thigh, knee, ankle and lower leg.
Is it hands-on?
Yes. Alongside the theory, the course is built around practical palpation and needling on real anatomy, with the trainer correcting technique in the room. Capacity is kept small — the lower-quadrant course caps at 11 participants.
How long is the course?
The Basic Dry Needling Training for Lower Quadrant runs 2.5 days, totalling 20 hours.
